It's Saturday and I'm usually (as we all are) slow on days like these. I woke up early because I went to sleep early last night. I remembered that I had never read that XXL magazine from last month in its entirety. I picked it up, left out on my way to theatre rehearsal, and read it in front of my schools theatre. I usually shy away from long articles in magazines because of course, I'm from the microwave generation where we rush,run,and zoom through everything. I decided to sit down and read the entire article TOO HARD TO LIFT" since I had time before the rest of the people would get to rehearsal, and get ready to rehearse.

The Article Too Hard To Lift" (maybe I'm a tad bit slow but I didn't think the title went with the article at all) is about the lack or seemingly disappearance of Gangster Rap and The Gangster. I was VERY happy that I had taken the time to sit down and completely read through it (No Skimming, Skipping, Or blowing through....pause) because it was a very interesting, truthful, and enlightening article. While reading I ran across a quote that made me literally laugh out loud when I read it. It read:

"In the media 'Gangster Rap' is just another word they use to call us niggers"

I know that the quote may not seem funny to you, but I thought it was.

When Biggie smalls died i remember not really fully being able to understand the depth of what just happened. I mean, i was young REAL YOUNG. I do however remember feeling sad, real sad. I'm not gonna lie i think i was more sad to see the reaction and sadness of others due to the loss of a rap phenomenon, somebody people had genuinely loved through his music. A guy who exuded positive energy even through the gritty, hardcore, raps about snatching chains and busting guns, and rap beef between him and Tupac. People could see through all of that and still see that Biggie was a GOOD man. I remember seeing the crowds of people crying as his casket passed them by and proceeded down Fulton street, where his career began with freestyles and rap battles in front of corner stores. I can also remember seeing people dancing as his music blared from speakers in apartment windows, parked cars, etc. I was young, but as i got older and music evolved and changed over the years i realized that we lost someone we can never replace, and never get back due to senselessness.

Well Im About Wrap up My List Of Valentines Day Tracks For Hip Hop. I mean who would have thought that Hip Hop could be so sentimental?

Anyway one of the tracks off of this list is Renee By Lost Boyz which is off the Legal Drug Money Album which Dropped in 1996. The Version that I knew and loved was the version from Menace II Society With Mona Lisa On The Track.

The Homie Dom says its a "Weed Song" and not a love song, OF COURSE he was joking referring to how many times Cheeks says weed in the song. However i think this song in all it's hip hop-ness actually captures the essence of love, A different kind of love experienced in the hood undoubtedly nothing of the regular, but still love if you ask me.

A representative for teen sensation Soulja Boy has confirmed the young entertainer was assaulted last week.

Unconfirmed reports began circulating on New Year’s Eve that Soulja Boy and several of his close friends were ambushed and robbed at gunpoint on Tuesday night (December 30) after six men invaded the rapper’s home.

Allegedly, Soulja Boy’s friend Jbar was nearly taken hostage during the robbery.

The following day (December 31), a video surfaced of two masked men claiming responsibility for the crime.

In the clip, the duo boasted of stalking Soulja Boy before the attack by attending his album release party and subsequently tailing the rapper to his home.

The alleged thieves further described the robbery in detail. They disputed initial reports of there being six assailants armed with pistols and Ak-47s.

Instead, the alleged robbers claimed the crime was completed between them with one weapon.

Due to the two minute video’s over the top content, the clip was initially met with skepticism by fans and media alike.

However, a representative for Soulja Boy has confirmed with AllHipHop.com that an incident did take place, but the rep refused to provide any concrete details, stating only that the crime is “a serious situation.”

Soulja Boy released his sophomore album iSouljaBoyTellem on December 16.

Earlier this week, the teen rapper again sparked controversy by releasing a Youtube video accusing legendary lyricist Nas of killing Hip-Hop and destroying economic opportunities of other emcees.

Me being from the north (New York) as most of my southern classmates say when we all get together, never really liked Gucci Mane's Music. The only songs that come to mind most of the time is "So Icey" and I only know of that because i was looking back into Jeezy's Career. Most of my southern compadre's Blame it on where i was born and raised but i blame it on the fact that im just not that into his music, whether he was from NY, Chicago, or even Milwaukee. When i heard he was locked up i was not suprised, but not moved by it at all. Though i say all of this alot of people are wondering exactly WHERE IS GUCCI MANE???????

Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane appeared in an Atlanta courtroom on Friday (September 12) for a probation violation hearing, and didn't get good news. He's been ordered back to jail.

According to MYFox Atlanta, the rapper (real name: Radric Davis) failed to fulfill the required community service hours as part of his probation -- 600 hours, or 50 hours per month.

Officials said Gucci Mane has only served a total of 25 hours in the past three years. Therefore, his probation was revoked for one year, and is ordered back to jail.

The rapper is serving probation for the 2005 assault charge for attacking local promoter Troy Buffor with a pool cue.

He was also arrested in July on a DUI charge during a routine traffic stop in Georgia. However, the probation violation involved the assault case, not the DUI.

After Gucci Mane serves one year, he still has to serve another 2 and a half years of probation and fulfill the 600 hours of community service.

Aint this the truth.

Its 2009 and I get sad watching people still fight Over Whose better; Biggie Or Pac? Both men were great in their own way. Pac was considered by some to be a revolutionary, one of those dudes who believed in the sayings of Malcolm X "By Any Means necessary" while Biggie was considered a story teller who told what i like to call crack stories.

In my eyes Biggie took the 80's and made it into a book. He spoke on the struggles and what all was happening on the streets of New York. He was a guy with a Microphone telling his life story. What other rapper do you know who had a life story to tell and told it in their music? Many rappers (50 Cent) get on by being real then somewhere along the road fall off (Yeah I Said It) and rap about a bunch of money and material things and lose the hunger and the notion of keeping it real. Biggie may have also eventually fallen off like most rappers do, and he may have still been one of the greatest, and jay-Z would still be a hype man or something, You never know and that "What If's" are the things that kill us the most. However back then he seemed as if he never would fall off and would be around having hip hop lovers nodding their heads to his hood stories.

The life and times of Biggie was a story that touched alot of people and meant alot to people from all over the 5 boroughs and even people in the west coast. Anybody can feel a dude thats sptting real shit over a beat.
